There used to be two Staples stores fairly near me - this is a stationery shop that also offers scanning, printing etc. However, they both mysteriously closed (as far as I can tell) some time ago and now Staples isn't covered in the north east of the UK at all.
I needed some A3 documents scanning, so I found a pokey little shop today offering such a service. It was a little place with a covered window and a door with no outside handle - you had to buzz to be let in. Upon entering, you ended up in a building with documents, printers and other equipment piled literally to the ceiling. I felt like I was going to set off an avalanche.
Anyway... I got my documents scanned (the people inside weren't as scary as the ceiling-height documents, but they did act like they hadn't been outside for months). And they're just... not very good. I was scanning some drawings and I have a feeling that these people are equipped for black and white legal/statement document scanning, even though they advertise high fidelity colour drawing scanning. My drawings look really washed out and it's taking a lot of tinkering and recolouring by hand in Photoshop to sort them out.
I can't be arsed to complain about it, but seriously... what's with the lack of decent scanning services in my area all of a sudden? It used to be so easy! It feels like the industry is dying.
On that note, have any of you got any recommendations for scanning documents? I don't even have anything at home suitable for A4 documents right now, because my previous scanner was too crap for my needs. What I really need is something to scan A3 documents (a service for scanning A2 documents and above that isn't terrible would also be nice, but that might be asking for a miracle
